Do you need previous 4WD driving experience?
We do get clients without the necessary 4×4 driving experience to undertake such an excursion. We will provide you with enough advise and tips in order to make your trip save and successful.
Do you need a 4WD vehicle to drive on Fraser Island?
Definitely. Fraser Island is for 4WD vehicles only. It is a sand island and there are no sealed roads, only beaches and rough sand inland tracks that require high clearance vehicles. All our 4×4 vehicles have lifted suspension and oversize tyres fitted.
What if you get stuck?
We provide you with recovery gear and basic 4WD advice and tips to help you getting yourself out.
What if you break down?
In case of a break down or any trouble with your vehicle you should call us immediately on the mobile number we provided with your Rental agreement.
Refund for Breakdown
Please be assured that breakdowns do not happen often, but they can occur.
In case of breakdown we will provide you with a replacement vehicle and refund you for the actual time lost on the Island.
Is there fuel available on the Island?
Most of our vehicles are equipped with double fuel tanks that will give you up to 1200-00 km’s of travel which should be suitable for most of your needs. Please consult the nprsr website to ensure there is fuel available at your destination. Otherwise just make sure that you know more or less how far you are going to travel day per day and make sure that you have enough fuel on board to cater for that. We will be more than able to assist you with this.
Are there shops on Fraser Island?
Yes, there are shops in Happy Valley, Eurong, Cathedral Beach and Kingfisher Bay. It is however advisable to purchase whatever you may need before you leave as the prices are considerably higher on the island.

Do you need a vehicle permit to drive on the beaches?
Yes – you will require a Vehicle Access permit to drive on the beach. You will have to arrange this permit prior to leaving for the island.
When can you drive on the beach?
You can ONLY DRIVE WITHIN 3 HOURS EITHER SIDE OF LOW TIDE.
Vehicle Insurance?
We have comprehensive insurance on all our vehicles. This includes indemnity insurance. There is a $3500-00 excess (liability fee) payable in the event of a claim (accident). We recommend clients take out Insurance Excess through RentalCover for as little as $16-00 per day – depending on the number of days. In case of an accident or damage to the vehicle the Hirer pays the excess to Island Safaris and claim it back from RentalCover: https://www.rentalcover.com
Note: Make sure you select “4×4” vehicle, so you are covered for offroad driving.
Is swimming allowed on Fraser Island?
We do not advise swimming in the ocean on Fraser Island. The beaches are unpatrolled and there are strong currents and large sharks off Fraser Island along with various species of jellyfish and salt water crocodiles.
